Key points

  • Social and recreational services included here for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder include social groups, sports, and life skills training.

This section provides information about recreational programs for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Services include: social groups, sports activities, and life skills training. These services may be provided in a specialized setting. They may also be provided in an integrated program that includes children with and without special needs.

It may be possible to use Special Services at Home (SSAH) funding to cover some of the cost of the service. For a complete guide to summer camp programs, please see the "Community Resource Directory for Children and Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their Families in Toronto" published by the Surrey Place Centre.

You can obtain a copy of this directory at www.surreyplace.ca.

Make sure to complete your applications for summer camp programs as early as possible as the spaces fill up quickly. Also remember that your community’s parks and recreation department offers activities that may be helpful to your child.
